Bilbo Baggins joins Gandalf the Wizard and a band of irksome dwarves on an exhilarating journey to the Lonely Mountain and a treasure guarded by the wicked dragon Smaug. The adventure will change the hobbit’s life—and the course of Middle-Earth—forever! Greg Banks’ fast-moving, highly-imaginative, 5-actor play-with-music features 2 live musicians and a beguiling soundscape/score.

REHEARSALS: Monday, Jan 12th – Friday, Jan 30th
TECH: Saturday, Jan 31st – Friday, Feb 6th.
PERFORMANCES: Saturday, Feb 7th – Sunday, March 1st

Be aware that YPT rehearses, techs, and performs during daytimes. A fully detailed production calendar and character breakdown can be found in the audition notice.
Rehearsals & performances will take place at the Greenhouse Theater Center (2257 N Lincoln Ave).

Seeking:
○ THORIN (also plays Dwalin, Goblin, Wolf, Spider & Eagle—seeking all gender identities and ethnicities).
Strong character actor and mover. Thorin is fiercely proud, stubborn, and doubts that Bilbo possesses the
skills to see the adventure through. Comes to value Bilbo’s abilities and integrity. Some singing.
○ ALL UNDERSTUDIES for production. Strong characters actors / movers. Some singing.

How to submit: To submit your audition, fill out the form HERE.
What to prepare: Actors auditioning should submit a contemporary monologue of their choice. Actors auditioning for the role of THORIN should additionally submit the 2 Thorin sides, found HERE.
The deadline to submit is Sunday, Dec 28th, 2025 @ 6pm. Because of the holidays, we will keep the form open to accept any submissions a few days late.
