Two Edge Theater began in Colorado as The Edge Theater Company, with a mission to produce classic works, bring regional premieres to Colorado, and develop and produce new plays by local playwrights. Over eight award-winning seasons, the company produced 60 shows and new play festivals.
Two Edge Theater brings this experience, talent and passion to Chicago through this collaboration with Gwydion Theater Company. We are seeking actors for a production of Arthur Miller’s powerful American drama A View From the Bridge. The production will take place at The Chopin Theater in Wicker Park, Chicago.
Set in a close-knit Brooklyn neighborhood in the 1950s, A View From the Bridge is a story of family, loyalty, desire, masculinity and betrayal. At its center is Eddie Carbone, a longshoreman whose fierce devotion to his niece becomes increasingly complicated when two immigrant relatives enter his home. What begins as an act of family loyalty ultimately forces Eddie to confront desires and loyalties he cannot control.

Time Commitment:
REHEARSAL & PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE
Rehearsals: Begin the week of October 26, 2026
Rehearsals will generally be 3–4 days per week.
Tech Week: Begins November 30, 2026
Opening Night: Friday, December 4, 2026
Closing: Sunday, January 10, 2027
Performances will run Thursday through Sunday, with 20 total performances.
There will be no holiday performances, with the exception of New Year’s Eve, December 31. The New Year’s Eve performance will be followed by a special NYE party and celebration.
Character Type/Restrictions:
We are seeking actors of all ethnicities and backgrounds are encouraged to audition. We are particularly interested in performers who bring emotional depth, specificity and a strong sense of ensemble to the work.
EDDIE CARBONE — ROLE CAST; UNDERSTUDY BEING SOUGHT
Male, 50s. A Brooklyn longshoreman. Tough, proud, hardworking and deeply devoted to his family. Eddie sees himself as the protector and provider of his household, but beneath his outward confidence is a man struggling with feelings he cannot acknowledge. He is complicated, charismatic, funny, volatile and ultimately tragic. The role requires significant emotional range and the ability to move convincingly from warmth and humor to anger, desperation and profound vulnerability.
BEATRICE CARBONE
Female, 40s–50s. Eddie’s wife. Warm, practical and deeply committed to her family. Beatrice understands Eddie better than almost anyone, and she recognizes the emotional undercurrents in their home before Eddie is willing to acknowledge them herself. She is loving but increasingly frustrated by Eddie’s behavior.
CATHERINE
Female, 17–early 20s. Eddie and Beatrice’s niece, who has been raised in their home. Bright, affectionate and increasingly independent, Catherine is entering adulthood and beginning to discover her own desires and ambitions. Her growing relationship with Rodolpho becomes the catalyst for Eddie’s increasingly possessive behavior.
MARCO
Male, 25–35. An Italian immigrant who enters the Carbone household seeking work and a better life for his family. Marco is physically imposing, serious, proud and intensely devoted to his wife and children back in Italy. He is a man of few words whose quiet strength becomes increasingly formidable.
RODOLPHO
Male, 20s. Marco’s younger brother. Light brown or blonde hair preferred. Charismatic, expressive, optimistic and somewhat unconventional. Rodolpho dreams of building a life in America and quickly falls in love with Catherine. His openness, interests and personality make him a target of Eddie’s suspicion and hostility.
ALFIERI
Male, 50s–70s. A lawyer who serves as both participant and observer in the story. He understands the complicated moral and legal territory surrounding the Carbones and the immigrant community. Alfieri functions almost as a Greek chorus, guiding the audience through the tragedy while recognizing that there may be no way to stop it.
LOUIS
Male, open age. A longshoreman and friend of Eddie. May also be considered for additional supporting or ensemble roles and may play multiple roles within the production.
MIKE
Male, open age. A longshoreman and friend of Eddie. May also be considered for additional supporting or ensemble roles and may play multiple roles within the production.
TONY
Male, open age. A longshoreman. May also be considered for additional supporting or ensemble roles and may play multiple roles within the production.
MR. LIPARI
Male, 60s+. A neighbor of the Carbones. A member of the Brooklyn community and husband of Mrs. Lipari. May also be considered for additional supporting or ensemble roles and may play multiple roles within the production.
MRS. LIPARI
Female, 60s+. A neighbor of the Carbones and wife of Mr. Lipari. May also be considered for additional supporting or ensemble roles and may play multiple roles within the production.
