Show Synopsis:
Set in New Orleans during the final days before Hurricane Katrina, Silent Waters is a powerful Southern drama about family, loss, and long-buried secrets.
As Odessa struggles to hold her family together following the death of her husband, tensions rise, old wounds resurface, and hidden truths threaten to unravel everything she has worked to preserve. With the storm closing in, each family member must confront the past and decide what they are willing to fight for before it is washed away forever.
Through dreams, flashbacks, music, and folklore, Silent Waters explores grief, redemption, generational wounds, faith, and the choices that shape our destinies.
Material to Prepare:
Actors should come prepared with a 2-minute dramatic monologue and be prepared to read sides from the script.
Time Commitment:
Rehearsals:
July through October 2026. Rehearsals will primarily be held on evenings and weekends. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be provided following casting.
Performance Dates:
October 9th through November 1st.
Character Type/Restrictions:
Actors of all backgrounds and experience levels are encouraged to audition.
Some actors may be asked to portray multiple roles throughout the production.
Character Breakdown:
ODESSA — Black Female
The heart of the story. Strong, resilient, and carrying the weight of family history. Must be capable of emotional depth and vulnerability.
CORETHA — Black Female
Odessa's daughter. Independent, caring, and determined. She finds herself navigating family expectations while opening her heart to the possibility of love and a new future.
SAM — Black Male
Coretha's son and Odessa's grandson. Curious, thoughtful, and eager to understand the stories and history that have shaped his family.
JIMMY SR. — Black Male
Odessa's late husband. Appears through memories and flashbacks. Warm, charismatic, and deeply connected to Odessa.
JIMMY JR. — Black Male
Odessa's oldest son. Struggles with family expectations, grief, and finding his own path. Ambitious yet flawed, he dreams of owning an antique store and escaping the shadow of his father's legacy.
JOSHUA — Black Male
Odessa's son. After years away from home, he returns carrying painful memories, family secrets, and unanswered questions about the past. Intelligent, successful, and determined to uncover the truth.
OLIVER — Male, Open Ethnicity
Coretha's love interest. Kind, dependable, and patient. He brings warmth and stability while encouraging Coretha to embrace hope and healing.
IDA — Female, Open Ethnicity
A mysterious spiritual figure who serves as storyteller, guide, and warning voice throughout the play. Strong storytelling and monologue skills required.
