Theatre L’Acadie is seeking 5 Actors & 5 Understudies for their upcoming world premiere of Big Time Toppers by Patrick Vermillion, directed by co-artistic director Brandii Champagne. Big Time Toppers is a fast-paced, high energy, ensemble based show. We are looking for movers, shakers, players! Circus Skills are exciting and appreciated, but totally not required. L’Acadie is highly encouraging BIPOC, LGBTQA+, non-binary, and actors of all abilities to apply. We encourage people of all backgrounds, ages, races, gender identities, sexual orientations, ethnicities, and religions to submit for consideration!
SYNOPSIS:
After a juggling trick goes horrifically awry, aspiring professional clowns Harlow and Stubs must find a way to treat the severe wounds they’ve accidentally inflicted on each other before the most important audition of their fledgling careers. A farcical comedy about being an artist in a world of peril – and making your dreams come true no matter what – even if there’s a tornado!

Feel free to submit a monologue that has been previously taped and best shows your range as an actor and your comedic abilities. Bonus points if it also showcases your physical abilities! CHARACTERS:
Harlow - (late 20s - GNC - They/Them - race non-specific) - Harlow is a highly ambitious and clever performer who will stop at nothing to achieve the future they envision for themselves. They've wanted to be a clown ever since hearing about their uncle, a legendary performer, from a young age. After being ridiculed and mocked for their dreams - Harlow left home and didn't look back. One day, when they're famous, they'll come back home and throw it in everyone's face.
Stubs - (late 20s - He/Him or She/Her or They/Them - POC) - Stubs is a bookish young performer who fell in love with the circus after taking a clowning class to help them with public speaking. The class awakened something in Stubs - causing them to abandon their career path as a lawyer and go into clowning full time, much to the dismay of their family. This is also where Stubs and Harlow met - and the two have been inseparable ever since.
Eddie - (30s-60s - He/Him - race non-specific) - Eddie is Stubs and Harlow's short-tempered boss - a greedy businessman who will do anything to make the investment back on his failing french clown themed restaurant, Pierrot Affame. Eddie hired Harlow and Stubs because of their clowning experience - but despises their lack of workplace discipline. He revels in making them do work and secretly hopes they'll fail as artists to accommodate for his own inadequacies.
Billie - (Late 20s/Early 30s - She/Her - POC) - Stubs' sister. A medical student who's been given the weight of familiar expectations after her sibling dropped out of law school. She's determined to prove that she is the most capable and intelligent person in the room even if she fears, deep down, that she is not up to the task. Even though she and Stubs have not spoken in several years, she holds great concern for her sibling and wants to protect them at all costs. She believes Harlow might be a manipulator - and is wary of Stubs and Harlow's relationship.
Jimmy Knives - (Late 30s-Early 50s - He/Him - race non-specific) a veteran circus performer on the verge of retirement who auditions Stubs and Harlow. He is in denial about the end of his career and is becoming increasingly impulsive and destructive as his final day in the circus draws closer. He always expected he'd die young - before he ever had to retire - and is maybe subconsciously seeking that as a large Tornado approaches the Big Top. Jimmy Knives is extremely intimidating and larger than life.
