The Food Pantry
Description
The Food Pantry is a story about a small-town food pantry providing food and support for people out of work or whose paychecks are inadequate to meet the needs of daily living.
The action centers around the pantry director, who is facing burnout, and a young, suddenly unemployed client who could take over the job, but who would bring a distinctively different vibe to the pantry’s operations.
Meanwhile a member of the church that houses the pantry is questioning the pantry’s very existence.
Auditioning for three roles over two nights of Zoom auditions and one in-person callback.
Auditions for the James role will be held Thursday, August 6, 7-10 p.m. via Zoom. Prepare 1-minute dramatic monologue. Sides will be sent when audition times are assigned. Email director your headshot and resume to secure audition time slot: johnnfrank@gmail.com

Character Descriptions
JANEY: mid to late 20s, a new mom who is a client of the pantry. She was on unpaid maternity leave from a warehouse when the company eliminated her job. Her attitude reflects her resentment at suddenly finding herself at the bottom of the economic ladder due to circumstances beyond her control.
OSCAR: 49 to 59 years old; White; man. Town resident and cynic, member of the church board who wants the food pantry moved out of church property.
JAMES: A 30-40s-something Hispanic man who volunteers at the food pantry. The play’s everyman, reflecting the world around him.
Rehearsals Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings in Evanston from Sept. 10 through Oct. 29. Rehearsals and tech entire final week, Nov. 2-6 before opening November 7. Shows Nov. 7-8 and Nov. 14-15. Saturday evening shows. Sunday matinees.
All rehearsals and shows at Northminster Presbyterian Church theater in Northwest Evanston. Actors must have own car to reach the site.
