Now seeking Actors for Subtext Studio TC’s World Premiere of Poor Queenie at Theater Wit!

After the death of her wealthy, far-older husband, a young mother finds herself alone with her teenage daughter for the first time. At first, their newfound freedom creates a world of never-ending fun, but the daughter soon finds that not everything is as her mother makes it seem.

Material to Prepare:

Prepare a contemporary 1-2 minute monologue. Link to Self-Tape (without password) or .mp3 files accepted. Accepting Self-Tape Submissions via email (casting@subtextstudiotc.org) until January 20th, 2025 @ 11:59pm. Callbacks are still TBD.

Time Commitment:

All rehearsals take place weekday evenings, weekend daytimes (subject to availability). And will be scheduled from March 15th-April 13th. Rehearsals will take place in West Loop, Chicago. Venue TBD. Tech Rehearsals are scheduled on April 14th-April 20th and dress rehearsals for April 21st-April 23rd.

Performances will take place on April 24th (preview)-May 11th at Theater Wit (1229 W Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60657). Scheduled for Friday nights, Saturday matinees and nights, and Sunday matinees.

Character Type/Restrictions:

AMBER: Latina/e, mid-late 30’s. Projects grandiosity and worldliness to mask her insecurity and uncertainty. A frightened eighteen-year-old in a 30-something's body.

QUEENIE: Mixed-Race Latina/e, 17. Deeply impressionable. Isn’t homeschooled but has homeschooled-energy; doesn’t know how to act around people her age––or people of any age, for that matter––but is trying her best.

LIVI: White, 17. A popular girl with a surprisingly tender heart beneath her vapid exterior. She’s fast-talking and confident in a way that makes her a natural leader.
