Silk Road Rising is seeking actors and understudies for the upcoming production of our original musical Christmas Mubarak, adapted by Corey Pond, co-directed by Reza Mirsajadi and Corey Pond, music directed by Reza Mirsajadi, and featuring a mix of religious Christmas music and two original songs by Ronnie Malley and Karim Nagi.

Christmas Mubarak tells the stories of Jesus and Mary as they appear in Islamic scripture, commentary, and tradition. This world premiere musical celebrates parallel narratives within Islam and Christianity and recognizes the Jewish origins of both traditions.

In our casting of Christmas Mubarak, our aim is to create an ensemble of eight actors that reflects the cultural and racial diversities of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. We aim to decenter Eurocentric depictions of Jesus and Mary by both honoring the Semitic roots of the three traditions and recognizing the breadth of each religion’s diaspora communities. We encourage people of any gender, race, sexuality, ability, size, and religious/spiritual/secular affiliation to submit.

Digital Submissions due by Friday, April 30 by 8:00PM CDT

Callbacks (via Zoom) will be held Friday, May 7 through Sunday, May 9

Please submit a 60-90 second monologue or personal holiday story and 30-60 seconds worth of a Christmas carol or other holiday song that is a capella or self-accompanied. (We can point you towards online videos to use as accompaniment for some Christmas carols)

To submit: please email headshot, resume, and videos to Corey Pond at casting@silkroadrising.org. Videos can be attached to the email or shared through services like Vimeo, DropBox, and WeTransfer. Please note that a submission does not guarantee a callback.
