Redtwist Theatre is seeking UNDERSTUDIES for Jen Silverman’s Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties
Redtwist Theatre greatly values their understudy program! Understudy Casts receive their own rehearsal process, led by our Assistant Director, Taylor Mercado Owen, as well as two guaranteed performances of the show– dates TBD. Redtwist is able to offer a one time stipend of $100 for each understudy track, but want to make it clear that time commitment in the rehearsal is significantly less and we will be flexible based on actor availability. Redtwist asks that understudies ideally attend one rehearsal a week and overstudy final dress, and additional scheduled understudy rehearsal and tech process.
About the Play: In Jen Silverman’s play Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties, the characters are defined by their personal dissatisfactions and their journey toward self-discovery, which they find through connection with each other. The cast consists of five women named Betty who are very different but united by their experiences of rage, loneliness, and the desire to break free from societal expectations.

Time Commitment:
Flexible rehearsal schedule, 2 guaranteed performances (dates are currently TBD)
First Rehearsal: September 1
Load-In: October 6
Tech: October 11 & 12
Opening: October 19
Closing: November 23
*Performances are Thursday-Saturday at 7:30 PM and Sunday at 3:30 PM.
Character Type/Restrictions:
Here's a breakdown of the five Betties:
BETTY 1 - Femme, white, rich, uptight, fuelled by secret rage
BETTY 2 - Femme, rich, uptight but coming undone, troubled by her own sexuality. Music ability is a plus!
BETTY 3 - High-Femme, Latina, charismatic and pretty, kind of a know-it-all
BETTY 4 - Butch lesbian, any ethnicity, great tattoos, gently melancholic, is too often ignored
BETTY 5 - Masc, any ethnicity, great tattoos, just out of prison, owns a hole-in-the-wall boxing gym
