Pride Films and Plays announces auditions for their upcoming production of BUYER & CELLAR, by Jonathan Tolins, directed by Donterrio Johnson.  PFP is committed to an expansive and inclusive casting process in regards to gender identities/expressions, sexualities, disabilities, ethnicity/race, socioeconomic status, age, language, country of origin, and other identities.

 

THE STORY: Alex More has a story to tell. A struggling actor in L.A., he takes a job working in the Malibu basement of a beloved megastar. One day, the Lady Herself comes downstairs to play. It feels like real bonding in the basement, but will their relationship ever make it upstairs? BUYER & CELLAR is an outrageous comedy about the price of fame, the cost of things, and the oddest of odd jobs.

If asked to audition, we will be looking for a brief comedic monologue (1 minute, please).

Time Commitment:

Rehearsals begin begin late February (tentative).
Tech begins April 5.
Previews begin April 11.
Opening Night - April 15.
Closing - May 19
Performances (after opening) are Thursday through Saturday evenings, & Sunday matinees.

Character Type/Restrictions:

SEEKING:
ALEX MORE (Male -Identifying). An out-of-work actor desperate for a job and a new adventure. Gay, quick-witted, funny, optimistically sarcastic. Must be warm, engaging, funny and disarming. Much of the role is spent speaking to the audience. Actor also plays ALL roles in the play, including Barbra Streisand. It's important to get the essence of each character rather than attempt a full-on impression.

NOTE: The director isn’t looking for a carbon copy of previous actors who’ve played this role. He is looking for an artist that is original, charismatic, captivating and awe-inspring.  Someone who you’d like to get drinks with. The director is open to seeing ALL types of artist for the role. POC and Trans/Non-Binary artist are STRONGLY encouraged to attend this call.
