Fighting the evils of homophobia and anti-semitism

Pay Rate: $300 stipend, plus additional stipend if the show gets extended.
Audition Location: 1411 W. Wilson, Chicago

Synopsis: Andrea Stolowitz’s great-grandfather kept a journal for his descendants after escaping to New York City in 1939 as a German Jew. Following the complicated lure of genealogy, Stolowitz goes back to Berlin to bring the story of her unknown ancestors out of the archives into the light. The record keeps as many secrets as it shares. How do people become “verschollen”, lost, like library books?

 

Material to Prepare:

Please prepare 2 monologues with contrasting characters, maximum of three minutes in length.

Time Commitment:

Rehearsals: November 4 - December 19

Performances: December 21 - January 9 (Fri/Sat 7:30, Sunday 2pm) Possible extension through January 19

Auditions performances, and most rehearsals will take place at Open Space Arts, 1411 W. Wilson, Chicago, IL

Andrea: 20s-30s, Jewish, female, open race/ethnicity.

Max: 40s-60s, Jewish, male, white. **

*Both characters also portray 14 other characters, including each other. Strong dialect skills preferred.

**Max must be able to memorize and perform a short scene in German.

Open Space Arts is seeking actors for our upcoming production of The Berlin Diaries by Andrea Stolowitz, directed by Izadorius Tortuga.

Pay: $300 stipend, plus additional stipend if the show gets extended.

PAY: Actors will receive a $300 stipend for the entire process plus additional pay if there is an extension past the original closing date.
