Oil Lamp Theater is seeking submissions for strong actor/singers with good comedic timing for its production of The Marvelous Wonderettes created by Roger Bean. Musical Arrangements by Brian William Baker Orchestrations by Michael Borth. Vocal Arrangements by Roger Bean & Brian William Baker. Lauren Katz will direct, Aaron Kahn will music direct, and Dominique Ruffalo will choreograph.

Run: 6/5/25-6/29//2025 (with a possible extension through 7/20/2025)

Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm; Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm; Wednesdays June 11 and 25 (at 11am and 3pm) and June 18 (at 7:30PM). If the run is extended through July 20 there will be performances Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm; Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm; Wednesdays July 9 and 23 at (11am and 3pm) and July 2 and 16 (at 7:30pm). There would be no performances on July 4th.

The Marvelous Wonderettes
This smash Off-Broadway hit begins in 1958 at the Springfield High School prom, where we meet Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy, and Suzy, four friends, with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! In Act II, the Wonderettes reunite to take the stage and perform at their ten-year reunion. This jukebox musical features over 30 classic ’50s and ’60s hits (Broadway Licensing).

Compensation will be $870. This includes a $150 rehearsal stipend and $30 per performance (24 performances total). If an extension is added actors will be paid an additional $30 per performance.

Compensation for Understudies is $530 for rehearsals/run and one guaranteed performance ($30 per additional show performed). If an extension is added to this production’s run, understudies will receive $50 per additional weekend. Understudies must attend a minimum of one rehearsal/performance a week and be at tech, dresses, and previews.

Oil Lamp Theater is located at 1723 Glenview Road, Glenview, IL 60025.

Time Commitment:

Rehearsals will begin Tuesday, April 8th and are typically held from 7:00-10:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings and on Saturdays from 10:00am-1:00pm until tech which begins on Saturday, May 31.

Initial auditions will be INVITE ONLY and will be held at Oil Lamp Theater in Glenview, Sunday January 26th beginning at 7:00pm.

Cindy Lou, female identifying, any race/ethnicity, ages 18 and 28
A popular girl who knows she will be named Prom Queen. She makes the biggest change between Acts I & II, having learned the lessons of true love and loss.
Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano Belt: E3–F5.

Missy, female identifying, any race/ethnicity, ages 18 and 28
The over-achiever of the group, head of the Prom Decorations Committee, and absolutely smitten with her music teacher.
Vocal Range: Soprano: G3–A5

Betty Jean, female identifying, any race/ethnicity, ages 18 and 28
The class clown, always vying for attention with Cindy Lou, her best friend.
Vocal Range: Alto: D3–E5.

Suzy, female identifying, any race/ethnicity, ages 18-28
She is always a little giddy and a little silly, and finds great pleasure in everything she does. In love with the lighting operator, completely surprised when named Prom Queen.
Vocal Range: Mezzo-Alto: G3–E5
