WHERE STORIES IGNITE
Oil Lamp Theater is seeking submissions for strong singer/actors for its production of The Last Five Years Written and Composed by Jason Robert Brown. Christina Ramirez will direct and Amy Branahl will music direct.
Run: 6/5/2026-7/5/2026 (with a possible 2 week extension through 7/19/2026)
Rehearsals will begin Tuesday, April 21 and are typically held from 7:00-10:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings and on Saturdays from 10:00am-1:00pm until tech which begins on Saturday, May 30.
Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm; Saturday and Sundays at 3pm; Wednesdays, June 10, June 24 (at 11am and 3pm) and June 17 and July 1 (7:30pm). There will be no performances on July 4.
If the run is extended through July 19 there will be performances Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm; Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm. Actors must be available for all extension performances in order to be considered.
Oil Lamp Theater does not provide housing. Local hires only.
The Last Five Years
An emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years, the show’s unconventional structure consists of Cathy telling her story backwards while Jamie tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show (MTI).
Initial auditions will be INVITE ONLY and will be held at Oil Lamp Theater in Glenview on Sunday, November 9, 2025 beginning at 7pm.

Compensation will be $960. This includes a $150 rehearsal stipend and $30 per performance (27 performances total). If an extension is added you will be paid an additional $30 per performance.
Compensation for Understudies is $530 and includes one guaranteed performance. Understudies will be paid $30 per performance for each additional show performed. Understudies must attend a minimum of one rehearsal/performance a week and be at all tech rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and previews.

Character Type/Restrictions:
CATHERINE HIATT: 25-35, Female identifying, any ethnicity. Range: F3-D#5. Character arcs from an ambitious, fresh-faced girl in a new relationship to a woman stunned by a betrayal and a divorce that she is only beginning to understand.
JAMIE WELLERSTEIN: 25-35, Male identifying, Jewish identifying. Range: A2-Bb4. Character arcs from an ambitious guy on a promising first date with a dazzling career to someone who is blinded by success and ego. He is very lovable, yet makes unintentional choices that sabotage his own happiness.

The characters we encounter in this show are written with she/her or he/him pronouns respectively. However limiting the descriptions are, we seek to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with.
