Oil Lamp Theater is seeking submissions for strong actors for its production of Poor Behavior by Theresa Rebeck. Lauren Katz will direct.
Run: 4/10/2026-5/10/2026
Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm; Saturday and Sundays at 3pm; Wednesdays, April 15 and 29 (at 11am and 3pm) and April 22 and May 6 (7:30pm).
Poor Behavior
A weekend in the country spins out of control when jealous wife Maureen makes a reckless accusation about her husband Ian and their old friend Ella. Ella’s husband Peter tries and fails to stop the domestic carnage in this fierce and funny story about the unexpected ease of betrayal and the fragility of marriage (Samuel French).
Rehearsals will begin Monday, February 23 and are typically held from 7:00-10:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings and on Saturdays from 10:00am-1:00pm until tech which begins on Saturday, April 4.
Initial auditions will be INVITE ONLY and will be held at Oil Lamp Theater in Glenview on Sunday, October 26, 2025

Compensation will be $1,020 This includes a $150 rehearsal stipend and $30 per performance (29 performances total).
Compensation for Understudies is $530 and includes one guaranteed performance. Understudies will be paid $30 per performance for each additional show performed. Understudies must attend a minimum of one rehearsal/performance a week and be at all tech rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and previews.

Character Type/Restrictions:
Specifically seeking a diverse cast of strong actors.
PETER: (Male Identifying, 30s-40s). Married to Ella. Self-assured, funny, confident, very likeable; a caretaker.
MAUREEN: (Female Identifying, 30s-40s). Married to Ian. Stubborn, driven, and does best with structure. She has a good heart but when life takes a turn from what she expected, she does not know where to turn or who to believe.
ELLA: (Female Identifying, 30s-40s) Married to Peter. Good natured, passionate, idealistic, with just enough self-deception at her disposal.
IAN: (Male Identifying, 30s-40s) Married to Maureen. Irish (proficient dialect required); has lived in the states for over ten years; bitter, funny, brilliant; Angry at himself for his bad decisions and the universe for letting him make them. Ready to burn the store to get what he wants. Wounded and vulnerable, which everyone can see but him.
Casting Notes:
Most characters we encounter in the show are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns. However limiting the descriptions are, we seek to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with.
