Oil Lamp Theater is seeking submissions for strong actors for its production of It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play by Joe Landry. Lauren Katz will direct.

Rehearsals will begin October 7 and are typically held from 7:00-10:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings and on Saturdays from 10:00am-1:00pm until tech which begins on Saturday, August 9.

Run: 11/20/2025-12/28/2025

Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm; Saturday and Sundays at 3pm; Wednesdays December 3 and 17 (at 11am and 3pm) and December 10 (at 7:30pm); Sundays December 14 and 21 at 7:30pm. There will be no performances on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day.

It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play

This beloved American holiday classic returns to the Oil Lamp Theater stage this holiday season. It comes to  life as a live 1940s radio broadcast. With the help of an ensemble that brings a few dozen characters to the stage, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve (Playscripts).

Initial auditions will be INVITE ONLY and will be held at Oil Lamp Theater in Glenview on Sunday, August 17 from 7pm-10pm.

Compensation will be $1,170 This includes a $150 rehearsal stipend and $30 per performance (34 performances total).

Compensation for Understudies is $530 and includes one guaranteed performance. Understudies will be paid $30 per performance for each additional show performed. If an extension is added to this production’s run, understudies will receive $50 per additional weekend. Understudies must attend a minimum of one rehearsal/performance a week and be at all tech rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and previews.

Casting Notes: Most characters we encounter in the show are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns. However limiting the descriptions are, we seek to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with.
