Hail Mary/Maria has previously been developed with CIRCA Pintig in Chicago, The Chikahan Company in San Francisco, and Pork Filled Productions in Seattle. This production is sponsored, in part, by a grant from The Independent Productions Initiative.
Synopsis: Kid, short for Kindness, gets slapped with his first real crush. He relies on his three Marys for guidance: his Filipina mother Marie, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and his favorite pro wrestler Maria. And although he feels like he’s blindly top-rope diving into love, will he be able to stand as a champion for himself? A coming-of-age story with the electricity of a live wrestling show, the comfort of your Filipino family, and the warmth of a budding romance, Hail Mary/Maria is a heartfelt adventure of finding and loving who you are.
Please Note: The show will utilize professional wrestling stage combat to be coached by a wrestling coach/fight choreographer.

Character Type/Restrictions:
KID: 18. Short for Kindness. Senior at a Catholic high school. Filipino immigrant. Wrestling fanboy. Relies on his Marys to help him with his first crush.
JACK: 18. KID's friend. Senior at a Catholic high school. White. Movie fanboy.
MARIE: 50s. KID's mother. Filipina immigrant. Protective of KID. Devout Catholic. Late-shift nurse. Must be comfortable in speaking Tagalog.
MARIA: 20s. KID's favorite pro wrestler. Ditzy. Bubbly. Vivacious. Confident.
MAMA MARY: Ethereal. The Virgin Mary that KID and MARY pray to for guidance and forgiveness.
MARIA and MAMA MARY intended to be played by one performer. For this role, we are seeking people of color and/or individuals who identify with other underrepresented groups.
Also seeking understudies for all roles.
