Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in downtown Arlington Heights, IL announces general auditions for Shout! The Mod Musical (Fall 2021) by Phillip George and David Lowenstein. Shout! will be directed by Lauren Berman, assistant directed by Tuesdai Perry, musical direction by Kailey Rockwell, and choreography by Lexi Bailey. Seeking strong non-Equity adult female-identifying, gender-fluid, and non-binary vocalists/actors. Particularly seeking BIPOC actors and actors with special needs and disabilities for all roles.

Shout! The Mod Musical is a jukebox musical review that gives us a glimpse of those glorious days that made England swing. Traveling in time from 1960 to 1970, Shout! chronicles the dawning liberation of women, from the rise of Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, and Cilla Black as independent women with major careers, to their American counterparts, redefining themselves in the face of changing attitudes about gender. Featuring exciting new arrangements of such classic tunes as “To Sir With Love,” “Downtown,” “Son of a Preacher Man,” and “Goldfinger.”

Material to Prepare:

To be considered for Shout!, please prepare two contrasting style classic rock songs (1 minute/around 32 bars each) from the 1960’s-70’s. Feel free to choose your own, or we also welcome any of the songs from the show! (A link to the show song list can be found online under the search “Shout the mod musical song list.”) Please select songs that allow you to show both your acting and vocal skills.

Please let us know that you plan to audition by emailing your current headshot, resume, and any conflicts with the rehearsal/tech/performance schedule with SHOUT! AUDITIONS in the email header to Metropolis Casting at casting@metropolisarts.com. Following that, by Fri 7/30, please submit a clickable link(s) of your self-tape for consideration. This link(s) should include the two (2) songs. The self-taped should be in a shareable format, such as an Unlisted YouTube link(s), that Casting can forward to the creative team. The self-tape submission may be submitted as separate links or a single link. Please make sure that your resume includes your vocal range and current phone number. After reviewing Metropolis’ Standards & Procedures, we welcome you to share your comfortability with the rehearsal and performance process. Please let us know if we can assist with any accessibility accommodations or questions to facilitate the casting process. Casting questions and requests for online coaching can be directed to the same email as well. Casting Authority – Robin Hughes (she/her/hers; LGBTQ+), Casting Director, Metropolis Casting.
