Pay Rate: Principal Roles: $700 Rehearsal Flat rate + $75 per show performed. Understudy Roles: $600 Rehearsal Flat rate + $75 per show performed. 10 shows total.

Dear Jack, Dear Louise by Ken Ludwig will be directed by Mandy Modic (she/her). Seeking Non-Equity adult actors. Actively seeking all identities, races, and ethnicities for all roles.

Show Description: When two strangers meet by letter during World War II, a captivating love story begins. U.S. Army Captain Jack Ludwig writes to Louise Rabiner, an aspiring actress in New York City, but the expanding war threatens to separate them permanently. This energetic, heartwarming comedy is infused with nostalgic nods to the era’s music, theater, and literature. Inspired by the true, WWII-era courtship of his parents, Tony Award-winning playwright Ken Ludwig fills Dear Jack, Dear Louise with romance, history, and charm.

Please note: We are asking about your conflicts for wider range of availability than may actually be used for rehearsals. Dates/times are subject to change.

Rehearsals – Sat 6/28–Wed 7/16/25: Weekly rehearsals will be chosen from the following times: 6-10pm Tuesdays-Thursdays and 10am-6pm Saturdays & Sundays. On Saturday 7/5, rehearsal is from 9am-1pm. There will be at least one designated day off each week. There is an Understudy rehearsal on Tuesday 7/29, 6-11pm.

Character Type/Restrictions:

  • Jack Ludwig: Masc, About 30 (Principal role) Reserved, shy, small-town gentleman. Jack is a dutiful Army physician. during World War II.
  • Louise Rabiner: Femme, early to mid-20s (Principal role) Outgoing, energetic, and not afraid to say what’s on her mind. Louise is an aspiring dancer and actress living in New York City during WWII. Looking for strong comedic skills.
  • Understudies: There will be an understudy for each role.

For auditions, please prepare a 1-minute contemporary monologue (comedic or dramatic) of your choice OR prepare one monologue from the play chosen from the options provided in the DJDL Auditions Sides Google folder. Please bring a copy of your headshot/resume to your audition.
