Kokandy Productions is seeking main cast and understudies for Leslie Bricusse and Frank Wildhorn’s gothic thriller Jekyll and Hyde, directed by Derek Van Barham and choreographed by Brenda Didier, with music direction by Nick Sula. The show will be produced at The Chopin Theatre in Wicker Park. Submissions are due by Thursday, May 15. 

Material to Prepare:

Please submit a 32-bar (or about 1:30) cut of a song in the style of the show that demonstrates your vocal range and ability. Include if there are any specific role(s) for which you’d like to be considered, whether or not you are interested in understudying, and any conflicts you have with the production period.

Time Commitment:

Rehearsals begin the week of August 25, 2025 (4-5 rehearsals per week; a mix of weekday evenings and weekend morning/afternoons). Tech begins Friday, October 3. First preview Thursday, October 9. Opening weekend: Sat, October 25 and Sun, October 26. Regular performance week is Thur-Sat 7PM, Sun 5PM. The show will run through Sun, December 21, 2025. There will be an additional performance on Wed, Nov 26—but no show on Thanksgiving Day.

ABOUT THE SHOW:
An evocative tale of two men – one, a doctor, passionate and romantic; the other, a terrifying madman – and two women – one, beautiful and trusting; the other, beautiful and trusting only herself – both women in love with the same man and both unaware of his dark secret. A devoted man of science, Dr. Henry Jekyll is driven to find a chemical breakthrough that can solve some of mankind's most challenging medical dilemmas. Rebuffed by the powers that be, he decides to make himself the subject of his own experimental treatments, accidentally unleashing his inner demons along with the man that the world would come to know as Mr. Hyde.

We are looking to cast 10-14 performers of all ages, ethnicities, genders and types to cover all roles and tracks in the show.

AVAILABLE ROLES INCLUDE:
Henry Jekyll / Edward Hyde  (Bb2 - A4)  is a doctor obsessed with discovering the true nature behind the good and evil in man and Emma's fiancee. After he uses an experimental formula on himself, his evil side - Edward Hyde - takes control.

Emma Carew (A3 - C6) The daughter of Chariman Danvers and Jekyll's beloved finacee who is refined and desired by all of the socialite men.

Lucy Harris (G#3 - F#5) The gorgeous 'main attraction' at a local gentleman's club. At the bottom of her luck, she becomes the object of Hyde's obsession. Lucy is feisty and wild, but also cautious and aware.

Gabriel John Utterson (B2 - F#4) Serves as Jekyll's lawyer and helpful friend. He advises the troubled doctor on personal and professional affairs.

Sir Danvers (C3 - F#4) Carew Emma's loving father and Chairman of the Board of Governors. A charming and gentle man.

Simon Stride (A2 - G4) The secretary of the Board of Governors and Jekyll's rival for Emma's affections.

Additional characters include the sadistic Bishop Of Basingstoke, the pompous General Lord Glossop, Lady Beaconsfield, Lord Savage, Sir Archibald Proops and an ensemble of aristocrats, citizens, party guests, sex workers, police and more.
