Haven Theatre is seeking submissions for a production in the 2019 Director’s Haven!

HOW YOU KISS ME IS NOT HOW I LIKE TO BE KISSED by Dan Giles

Director: AJ Schwartz (they/them)

About the Show:

X and Y are a straight couple. They meet, move in together, fall in love, fall out of love. Just like any other straight couple. But is this pattern the nature of romance, or does heteronormativity and the gender imbalance that sustains it do irreparable damage to the love we can have for each other?

Material to Prepare:

Please submit a headhsot and resume to nwhitcomb@haventheatrechicago.com for consideration with “HOW YOU KISS ME Submission” in the subject line. We will reach out if we need to see you for an audition with sides from the play.

Time Commitment:

Rehearsal Commitment:
Rehearsals Begin on or around September 1st. Complete schedules will be decided by director once the show is cast.

MANDATORY DATES:
September 21st - Festival Read-Through
September 28th - Designer Run
October 2nd - Tech Begins
October 16th - Show Opens
October 30th - Show Closes

Character Type/Restrictions:

X - Creative. Grappling with sadness. Uses her art to process her emotions. Grounded and knows herself very well. This role will be played as a woman but the actor is a man.

Y - Sensitive for a cis-het man. Feels his needs are more important than the needs of X. This relationship favors him in a lot of ways. This role will be played as a man but the actor is a woman.

Haven is committed to diversifying Chicago stages by telling compelling stories through diverse lenses. We welcome folks of all races, nationalities, genders, sexual orientations, sizes, and abilities to submit and audition for our productions.
