The Director’s Haven gives directors in the earliest stages of their professional careers a rare opportunity to take risks, hone their crafts and talents and share their vision through a fully staged production of a short play. Giving directors support to produce during their formative years, which includes a full design team, budget, marketing support and more, allows these artists to create quality work as well as provides a platform to further their artistic visibility through the creation of said work.

For this year’s Directors Haven, we will be producing SAME SECTS! by Paul Michael Thompson, Directed by Arti Ishak, NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT ENOUGH OXYGEN by Carol Churchill, Directed by Megan Philippi, and LAMENTS OF A BROWN BIRD SUMMER by Cris Eli Blak, Directed by Joel Willison.

SAME SECTS! is already fully cast.

NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT ENOUGH OXYGEN by Carol Churchill, Directed by Megan Philippi

VIVIAN: Female | Any Ethnicity | Age: 30-50
Perceptive, caring, anxious, brave, sickly, tougher than she looks. Vivian grew up in a polluted world and has never breathed freely. She rarely has enough air to get through a whole sentence, and repeats words and phrases frequently in order to get through this obstacle and finish a thought. Her dialogue contains many repetitions without clear punctuation breaks, so text work and breath control will be important.

CLAUDE: Any Gender | Any Ethnicity | Age: 20-30
A despondent, somewhat confrontational teen pop superstar. Claude is deeply disturbed by human suffering and environmental collapse, but feels a lack of agency and can seem apathetic. Their bleak worldview may or may not be apparent from their popstar persona. Claude makes an emotionally fraught homecoming to visit their father, Mick.

LAMENTS OF A BROWN BIRD SUMMER by Cris Eli Blak, Directed by Joel Willison

LOUIS, 40s-50s, Black.
JANET, 16-18, Black
FOSTER, 20s-30s, Black/Biracial/Afro-Latino/Latino
