Gwydion Theatre Company is seeking actors for its upcoming production of Lynn Nottage’s ‘Por’Knockers.

Director: Makari Robinson-McNeese

Synopsis: When radical action meets radical consequences when do we draw the line? Por’ Knockers follows a group of civil rights activists in the hours following their bombing of what they thought was an empty building. When the bombing results in the deaths of school children playing in the building, the group struggles with the idea that their noble cause has led to harming the very people they are aiming to protect.

Please prepare a monologue not to exceed two minutes in length.

Rehearsals: 8/10-9/2 @ Greenhouse Theater Center
Tech/Dress: 9/3-9/9 @ Greenhouse Theatre Center
Performances: 9/10-10/4 Thursday Friday Saturday @ 7pm, Saturdays Matinees @ 2pm, Sunday Matinees @ 4pm, @ Greenhouse Theater Center

Character Type/Restrictions:

Character Breakdown:

Lance: coal-black Guyanese gold miner, twenties; disciplined, weathered, resilient. Role requires some singing and dialect work.

Kwami (role cast, seeking understudy): Guyanese-American man, early forties; authoritative, introspective, faithful.

Ahmed, African-American man, early twenties; impulsive, defiant, outspoken.

Tamara, African-American woman, late twenties/early thirties; academic, ethical, observant

James (role cast, seeking understudy): African-American man, early thirties; frenetic, cynical, paranoid
