Filament Theatre is now accepting submissions for its upcoming season of plays and beyond. This season will feature a North American reproduction of the Australian-based installation experience, RAIN, a play for babies and their carers. In the Spring Filament will present  a world premier production commissioned by Filament Theatre for ages 13+, exploring grief, friendship, and exceeding expectation.

In addition to connecting with artists for these spring productions, Filament looks towards their future programming and would love to meet anyone interested in Filament’s work.

Artists of all genders, races, and abilities are invited to submit.

Material to Prepare:

~RAIN~

Auditionees will be asked to participate in an hour long movement workshop led by the production’s director. Artists will be asked to work individually and in small groups to explore curiosity and gentle play through movement. No formal dance training is required.

Cellists will work alongside the facilitator auditionees, and be asked to participate in the workshop through music – improvising and underscoring the movement of the small groups.

Audition time slots:

11:00a - 1:00p
2:00p - 3:00p
4:00p - 5:00p

In addition to the workshop Cellists are asked to submit a video excerpt of Bach's Prelude from Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major. If you do not have a cello available at home, you can perform the excerpt in person -- please note if you need a cello provided.

Sheet music will be provided upon receiving an audition slot.

~SPRING PRODUCTION~

Please prepare a monologue and a poem. Each piece should be no more than 60 seconds. Please be prepared and familiar enough to play with the language – we may ask you to explore the pieces with movement.

Character Type/Restrictions:

RAIN

ONE primary and ONE swing performer-facilitator - open gender/open ethnicity/open age. Mindful performer-facilitators who feel more than comfortable with 0-crawling aged babies and moving freely in their body.

ONE cellist (advanced) - open gender/open ethnicity/open age. The cellist accompanies the two facilitators; and is the heartbeat of the experience, setting the tone for the world, and stewarding the pace of the performance through music. The cellist should be apt at performing classical music and  feel at ease with some improvisation.

Please note: RAIN is a scripted work with set musical material. While the performers' presence and attunement to families is central, the shape and rhythm of the performance are clearly structured.

Spring Production

5 adult performers who are adept with poetic language and rhythm.

*All characters are open to any race/ethnicity and any gender.
