Fat Theatre Project and The Terror Cottas
Kassandra Audition Notice and Info
Fat Theatre Project and The Terror Cottas are seeking actors for the spring world premiere of Kassandra at the Top of the World directed by Eileen Tull.
Fat Theatre Project Mission Statement:
Fat Theatre Project tells stories by/about/for/with fat people. Fatphobia appears in many areas of life: social, medical, creative, just to name a few. FTP seeks to break stigma and shatter expectations of how fat creatives can participate in the arts – whether through stories directly addressing fatness or through work that has nothing to do with the specific size of the artists involved. Our work is bold, unapologetic, and brimming with joy. All bodies welcome.
Terror Cottas Mission Statement:
To build audience and performance opportunities for experimental playwrights by sharing resources and networks among member playwrights and associate artists, applying for funding, and educating and welcoming audiences with radical hospitality.
Summary:
Kassandra at the Top of the World is an exploration of the Greek prophetess cursed never to be believed. This piece finds Kassandra on a mountaintop, bearing witness to the annihilation of humanity from climate collapse—at once mythic and urgently contemporary.
Characters:
Kassandra (20s-40s, Femme) – brimming anger, struggling with self-doubt and a hint of madness
A Bird (any age/gender) – the leader (self-appointed), trying to keep the story on track
A Second Bird (any age/gender) – more academic and seemingly logic-based
Another Bird (any age/gender) – bit of a slacker, wants answers and snacks
Apollo (20s, Masc) – a god who has never had to cede power or face consequences
All characters are involved in stage combat
The characters of Kassandra and Apollo discuss an event of sexual assault
Kassandra has a moment of solo sexuality that is briefly physicalized
All in-person events are at the Berger Park Cultural Center – 6205 N Sheridan Road
