Hot People Island is a new original play by Deana Velandra getting a world premiere production at Cornservatory this fall. For fans of reality television shows like Love Island, Survivor, and Traitors, this fast paced comedy explores our connections to celebrity, fame, and reality itself.
Directed by Maddi LeBlanc, Hot People Island will run Thursday-Saturday nights at 7:30 from September 4- September 27, 2025.
Hot People Island contains a few moments of intimacy and violence for which actors will work with an intimacy/violence choreographer. This play contains mention of some adult themes such as sex, suicide, and murder.

Please prepare a comedic contemporary monologue of approximately one minute in length that best showcases you. Have fun!

Characters:
HOST- any gender, any age. Imagine if Jeff Probst and Maya Jamma and Iain Stirling and Chris Harrison and Alan Cumming and Nathan Fielder were all one coked-up monster person.
TOM- trying to make a career from watching reality TV. A Reality Steve type. (this role has been cast).
JAM- a person who enjoys reality TV a regular amount with their friends
Hot People:
MADISON- young, southern, and sweet. Here to promote her music career, but she’s the type of person who can’t help falling in love.
SANDY- Feisty, fiery, and fun! She’s here to have a good time, but she’s also got your back. A real “girl’s girl.”
RYLIE- Not here to make friends. She’s here to win, you dumbass!
BRIDGET- doe-eyed and a little naive. She’s just hoping for the best.
CRAIG- all-American boy-next-door type. He’s not into labels though.
JACKSON- sassy and expressive.
GEORGE- kind of a fuck boy if you know what I mean
FREDDY- British. No idea what’s going on here. His sister signed him up for this.
*A note about hot people: “Hot People” is a mindset. In no way do the actors need to fit the typical age range or appearance of those cast on a show like Love Island.
