Citadel Theatre’s 2026-27 Season:

Eureka Day
Sep. 11 – Oct. 11, 2026
A Play by Jonathan Spector
Directed by Scott Westerman

Show Description: In this hilarious 2025 Tony Award-winning satire, an elite private school is thrown into crisis when a mumps outbreak divides parents and board members over vaccines. As debates intensify and facts grow slippery, every solution only deepens the conflict. Eureka Day asks us to fully recognize the humanity of those we disagree with.

Character Breakdown:

  • DON – Fifties, White. Head of school. A calming presence. Has worked hard to become the man he is. From New England, moved to Berkeley in the early 80s chasing the last gasp of hippie-dom. Started in education as a music teacher, and on difficult days fantasizes about going back to it. Has lived with his partner in the same rented In-Law unit for 25 years. She makes pottery. They go to Esalen three times a year. No kids.
  • SUZANNE – Forties, White. From the mid-west, moved after college when her then-boyfriend now-husband started graduate school at UC Berkeley. Raising her family and nurturing the school are her life’s work, and fully intertwined. Once her youngest was in school she started working part-time as a life-coach, after being encouraged by so many friends who she’s helped through difficult times. Has a home worth three million dollars (though she’ll tell you it was much much much cheaper when they bought), but thinks of herself as “comfortable” rather than “wealthy.” Mother of Arlo, Tompkins, Juniper, and Walden.
  • CARINA – Thirties, Black. Grew up overseas and on military bases. She had gone to eight different schools by the time she graduated from high school, so she’s skilled at landing in a new environment and figuring out the rules. She’s a joiner. Her wife is from the Bay Area and always wanted to come back, so they moved nine months ago from the East Coast. She’s worked for housing-related non-profits her whole professional life, so has spent A LOT of time in board meetings. Mother of Victor.
  • MEIKO – Thirties, biracial Japanese/White. Berkeley native. Went to UC Berkeley and has never lived anywhere else, or wanted to. Has a big network for friends, from having grown up here. A landscape architect, which she’s good at but a little bored by. A year after the end of a tortured on-again off-again eight-year relationship, became a single mother by choice, of Olivia. When her daughter was young, Meiko’s mother was effectively a co-parent, but less so now. Would sort of like to have another child, but feels like she’s too old to think about doing it alone, again.
  • ELI – Thirties, White. A big puppy dog. From Southern California, went to Stanford and then straight into working in tech. Cashed out three years ago, and has been in search of how to occupy his time and exercise his mind. An expert pickler, competitive rock climber, manager of family wealth. Went through an intense Ayn Rand phase in college, which now fills him with shame, but which he has also never fully shaken. When they first decided to open up their marriage, he and his wife spent many hours in therapy making sure they were approaching it in a thoughtful and intentional way. But that was a long time ago. Father of Tobias.

  • TOM WINGFIELD – (early 20’s) Amanda’s son and Laura’s younger brother. He works in a shoe warehouse to support the family, acting as the play’s narrator and protagonist. An aspiring poet.

Ordinary Days
Apr. 16 – May. 16, 2027
A Musical by Adam Gwon
Directed by Christina Ramirez

Show Description: Ordinary Days is a musical about four young New Yorkers whose lives intersect as they search for fulfillment, happiness, love and cabs. Through 21 vibrant, memorable songs, it celebrates life’s everyday moments and the small choices that bring strangers together. Since premiering in London and New York City, it has won over audiences around the world.

Seeking strong comedic singer-actors for Ordinary Days.

The characters we encounter in this show are written with she/her or he/him pronouns respectively. However limiting the descriptions are, we seek to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities to submit for all roles.

Character Breakdown:

  • CLAIRE – female-identifying, any ethnicity, 20’s-30’s  Range: G3 – E5
Struggling with the progression of her relationship, CLAIRE is a headstrong and emotionally layered woman who can’t seem to let go of the past. While she loves JASON, she’s constantly in her own head and often shuts him out, getting in her own way of happiness.
  • DEB – female-identifying, any ethnicity, 20’s Vocal Range: F#3 – E5
A no-nonsense high-achiever, DEB is a disgruntled grad student who is constantly looking elsewhere for happiness. Impatient, a bit neurotic, and despite her protests, overall a negative person, she’s got big dreams but no real idea how to achieve them. When her world collides with WARREN, whom she initially dismisses as a “waste of a life,” her walls come crashing down as she discovers what makes life beautiful.
  • WARREN – male-identifying, any ethnicity, 20’s Vocal Range: G#2 – G5
A loveable oddball, WARREN is an artist with something to say, but he’s not quite sure what it is yet. He’s determined, positive, and a bit over-eager, but his heart is always in the right place. His budding friendship with DEB forces him to reflect on his “big picture” in life, while he helps her appreciate the everyday.
  • JASON – male-identifying, any ethnicity, 20’s-30’s Vocal Range: A2 – G#4
A devoted and loving man, JASON has recently moved in with his girlfriend, CLAIRE, and couldn’t be more thrilled to start the next chapter of their lives, even if he has to stay in New York City. He knows exactly what he wants in life, or rather, who he wants, but he doesn’t understand why CLAIRE is so resistant to their relationship’s progression.
