Avalanche Theatre is seeking actors and understudies for the world premiere production of They Broke Up by Skyler Tarnas, running November 6 – 21, 2026. Video auditions will be accepted through Friday, January 16.
Synopsis:
Happy New Year! But when Amy and Brett break up and their entire friend group crumbles at three little words, who can even remember that the world is ending? They Broke Up is an off-the-wall break up story about a friend group navigating multiple apocalypses.

Time Commitment:
First rehearsal: September 15, 2026
Rehearsals: Sunday mornings 10am - 2pm, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday evenings 6:30 - 10:30pm, September 15 - October 27, 2026.
Understudy Rehearsals: Thursday evenings September 17 - October 22, 2026
Tech: October 28 - November 3, 2026 (Actors Off October 28 - 30)
Previews: November 4 & 5, 2026
Opening night: November 6, 2026
Performances: November 6 - 21, 2026
Character Type/Restrictions:
AMY - she/her - (20s) doesn't know what love is, embarrassingly. Any ethnicity. (This role has already been cast. We are seeking an understudy for this role.)
BRETT - he/him - (20s) would punch holes in the walls if he wasn't "evolved." White. (This role has already been cast. We are seeking an understudy for this role.)
KC - she/they - (20s) a brilliant mind with all of the consequences. BIPOC.
SPENCER - he/him - (20s) too gay to want to save the world. Any ethnicity.
SHY - they/he - (20s) always half experiencing a far-off dream somewhere. BIPOC.
TRUDY - she/her - (20s/30s) an intrusive thought with limbs. Any ethnicity.
DERBY** - he/him - (20s) like a horny golden retriever puppy. Any ethnicity.
VIOLET - she/her, she/they - (20s) lots of love to give, unfortunately. BIPOC.
**PARTIAL NUDITY REQUIRED: The role of DERBY requires a few instances of nudity including: one scene wearing nothing but a hand-towel covering the groin (topless/full buttocks will be seen) for the duration of one scene with other actors on stage. A modesty garment and intimacy designer will be provided. DERBY appears in a few instances of toplessness (pants worn), and a few instances of pantslessness (underwear worn).
