St Nicholas (understudy)

Black Button Eyes Productions is seeking a masc-presenting actor who reads 40s or 50s to understudy our summer production of the one-actor Conor McPherson play St Nicholas, running June 26 through July 26, 2026 at City Lit Theater, 1020 W Bryn Mawr, Chicago.

Character:  A Dublin theater critic (Dublin dialect required) who abandons their wife and children and becomes the servant of a nest of vampires.  Sardonic and cynical; self-loathing but bitingly funny.

Requirements: Attend key rehearsals (meet-and-greet, table work, designer run, dedicated understudy rehearsal w/ director) during rehearsal process;  attend all tech rehearsals and preview performance; be prepared to go on for the role after opening (checking in at half hour).  One guaranteed understudy performance during the run, date TBD.

Schedule details:

• First rehearsal after Memorial Day (likely Tues May 26); all rehearsals prior to tech at a north side location TBD but convenient to public transportation
• Rehearsals either 3 hours on weekday evenings (Fridays always dark until tech), Saturday afternoons/early evenings,  or Sunday afternoons/evenings
• Load in to the City Lit space Monday June 22
• Tech week the evenings of Monday June 22-through Thursday June 25
• One preview performance Friday June 26 at 7:30 pm
• Opening night Saturday, June 27th at 7:30 pm
• Performances Thursdays-Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays at 3 pm through Sunday July 26 (closing matinee)
• Performance schedule exceptions: No performances on Saturday July 4,  And two additional performances: Monday July 13 at 7:30 pm,  and 2nd performance at 3 pm on Saturday July 18 (two show day).
