Character Type/Restrictions:
PRINCIPAL CHARACTERS:
Mary Jane “MJ” Healy
A suburban mom focused on keeping up appearances while privately struggling with pain, perfectionism, and addiction. She’s smart, funny, tightly wound, and trying to hold the whole family together.
Steve Healy
MJ’s husband. Charming and steady on the surface, but avoidant and emotionally guarded, with his own destructive coping mechanisms.
Mary Francis “Frankie” Healy
The Healys’ adopted teenage daughter. A fierce, funny, outspoken artist who pushes back against her town’s “perfect” culture and fights hard for what she believes is right. CASTING AN ACTOR OF COLOR ONLY IN THIS ROLE.
Nick Healy
Frankie’s brother. The golden child with big college expectations and a lot of pressure to perform; he’s forced to confront responsibility, complicity, and who he wants to be.
Jo Taylor
Frankie’s best friend (and more than that at times). Grounded, intense, loyal, and emotionally honest—often the person who says what everyone else is avoiding.
Bella Fox
Frankie’s friend. Warm and funny with an inner strength; she becomes central to the show’s exploration of consent, credibility, and being believed.
Phoenix
A magnetic, artistic classmate who’s part confidant, part catalyst: drawing Frankie toward risk, intensity, and self-discovery.
Featured / supporting
Andrew Montefiore
A prominent student in the school world: status-conscious and intertwined with the social dynamics that drive the teen storyline.
Ensemble
Students / Parents / Townspeople
The ensemble plays the school community and adult world surrounding the Healys: fueling the pressure-cooker environment and expanding the story’s social lens.
