Website Simple Theatre
Simple Theatre is excited to be producing our first show since returning to Chicago. We are thrilled to announce auditions!
J’UNCLE is an original story about a guy who is the king of his castle and lives life on his own terms. Never mind that his castle is his younger brother’s tool garage and his terms are, at best, questionable. The script examines family relations, as well as societal expectations and norms… and how they seem to be changing drastically these days – in nearly every way.
This script – written as a 3-episode season – is about an hour and a half long AND is the first of… hopefully many seasons to come (the next is already in the works). This is a dialogue and character driven piece, a lot of meticulous detail.

Character Type/Restrictions:
JAMES LEWIS, 37 years old, lives in his brother’s garage. He’s a little scrawny, smart, quick witted, aware of current events, and always has an opinion. He lives in shorts, a T, and flip-flops. There is VERY brief nudity, less than 5 seconds; there will be opportunity to use set pieces to block some viewers.
STEPHEN, Jim’s 4 years younger brother. Stephen could not be more different than Jim: tall, good looking, successful, happily married to Verity and expecting his first child. He sometimes speaks before he thinks, causing awkward embarrassment.
VERITY is over 3 years younger than Jim and slightly older than her husband Stephen. She gets along very well with both brothers – this is crucial to the story. She can get along with a lot of people; but is not a pushover. She is fun, understanding, compassionate, and doesn’t take herself or life too seriously.
