Chicago Premier: In the heart of the Bible Belt, a local theatre announces it will stage Tony Kushner’s Angels in America—complete with seven seconds of male nudity—and the city goes into a frenzy. Based on actual events, Eric Coble’s Southern Rapture turns this civic eruption into a wickedly funny satire about artistic freedom.

NYLA-JEAN GEISY: An Actor with Wings [this role involves roller skating & angel wings].
JULIA OVERMYER: A District Attorney with a Conundrum.

LAVERNE JACKSON: A Concerned Citizen.
PAM: A Stage Manager with a Clipboard.
CLARICE PAXTON: A Wife of the Mayor, Mother of his Children.
TINA: A Storm-Swept Secretary (Offstage voice).

SIMON LARISHER: A Theatre Critic.
EMMETT WHIPPLE: An Actor with Problems.
NIGHTLINE HOST: A T.V. Host. (no dialect)
FRANKLIN McMANUS: A Lawyer with a Way [this part communicates primarily via metaphors].

TRACK 4 (Any ethnicity; Male; 30s/40s) plays:
MICKEY STEDMAN: An Actor with Genitals [this role requires 7 seconds of full nudity].
REVEREND DuPREE: A Man Who Knows God.
ANTON FINEWITZ: A Playwright with Knowledge. (no dialect)

WINSTON PAXTON: A Mayor on a Roll (Male; 40s). [ROLE IS CAST]

MARJORIE WINTHROP: An Artistic Director on a Roll (Female; 40s). [ROLE IS CAST]
