Set in Victorian-era London, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol tells the classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and the spirited ghosts that visit him one fateful Christmas Eve hoping to persuade him to change his miserly ways.

Please choose ONE character/track you are interested in being seen for and prepare the assigned side(s). In addition, if you are a singer, please prepare a 1 minute acappella cut of a traditional Christmas carol. If you play a musical instrument (intermediate to advance level, no beginners), you may accompany yourself or play a short 1 minute cut showcasing your skills. Piano will be provided.

Character Type/Restrictions:

PRINCIPAL:

WOMAN (FAN) - 27 to 34 years old; Narrator of the play. She is Fan, Scrooge's late younger sister who was kind, joyful, and embodied the spirit of Christmas. Singing Role.

EBENEZER SCROOGE - 50 to 70 years old; A wealthy but cruel and miserly old man who despises Christmas. He is visited by Christmas spirits who implore him to change his ways so that he might redeem his own life.

ENSEMBLE:

FRED/BELLE'S HUSBAND - 20 to 34 years old; Fred is Scrooge's nephew, son of Fan. He is joyous and filled with the spirit of Christmas. He reminds Scrooge of Fan. Singing ability a plus.

BOB CRATCHIT - 35 to 40 years old; all ethnicities; Bob Cratchit is the poor employee of Scrooge and father to Tiny Tim. Despite is situation, he is kind, hopeful, and believes in the good people have to offer. Singing ability a plus.

CHARITY WORKER 1/FEZZIWIG/OLD JOE - 40 to 50 years old; Singing ability a plus. Charity Worker 1 - They collect money for the poor and needy during the holidays, much to Scrooge's annoyance. Fezziwig - Scrooge's old employer when he was younger. Fezziwig is boisterous and filled with the spirit of Christmas. Old Joe - Criminal who profits off of stolen goods.

MRS. FEZZIWIG/PRESENT - 40 to 50 years old; Singing required. Mrs. Fezziwig - wife of Mr. Fezziwig. She brings the Christmas cheer every holiday with the Fezziwig Christmas Party. She is exuberant and joyful. Ghost of Christmas Present - the larger than life spirit who guides Scrooge through his present deeds.

MARLEY/DICK WILKINS/DEBTOR - 30 to 36 years old; Singing ability a plus. Jacob Marley - Scrooge's deceased business partner. His spirit comes to warn Scrooge of his potential fate and hope for redemption. Dick Wilkins - Scrooge's best friend at school.

BELLE/FRED'S WIFE/LAUNDRESS - 20 to 35 years old; Singing required. Belle - Scrooge's ex-fiancé. She is gentle and kind. She still loves Scrooge but makes the difficult choice to leave him. Laundress - Scrooge's servant who steals items from Scrooge to sell to Old Joe.

YOUNG SCROOGE/TOPPER/FUTURE - 20 to 30 years old; Singing required. Young Scrooge - A promising young man whose fear of the world leads to his turn to greed and anger. Topper - A party guest at Fred's. He is mischievous and fun. Ghost of Christmas Future - The terrifying, silent spirit that shows Scrooge the future and where his ill deeds may lead.

CHARITY WORKER 2/MRS. CRATCHIT - 30 to 40 years old; Singing ability a plus. Charity Worker 2 - They collect money for the poor and needy during the holidays, much to Scrooge's annoyance. Mrs. Cratchit - Wife to Bob Cratchit. She is kind, strong, and caring.

CHARWOMAN - 20 to 30 years old; Singing required. Charwoman - A servant of Scrooge's. She is fearful of the sounds of the spirits when Scrooge comes home. Later she steals items from Scrooge to sell to Old Joe.

YOUNG PERFORMER ENSEMBLE:

CHRISTMAS PAST/DEBTORS' CHILD - 10 to 14 years old; The Ghost of Christmas Past guides Scrooge through his past to see how is choices in life led him to where he is today. The spirit is kind and never judges Scrooge.

YOUNG FAN/BELLE'S CHILD/CRATCHIT/WANT - 10 to 14 years old; Young Fan - Scrooge's little sister who visits him at school to bring him home for Christmas. Singing required.

BOY SCROOGE/CRATCHIT/IGNORANCE/TURKEY BOY - 10 to 14 years old; Plays multiple roles including the boy version of Scrooge, a Cratchit child, and the Turkey Boy. Singing required.

TEEN SCROOGE/PETER - 12 to 17 years old; Plays teen version of Scrooge and Peter Cratchit. Singing required.

MARTHA CRATCHIT - 12 to 17 years old; Martha Cratchit is the oldest daughter of the family. She is kind and wise beyond her years. Singing required.

TINY TIM - 8 to 12 years old; The youngest Cratchit child. He has a bad leg that is only getting worse without medical attention. He is sweet, kind, and innocent. Singing required. ENSEMBLE
