Casting Chicago area actor/musicians for concert reading
Seeking Chicago actors/rock musicians who are between 50-75 years-old for live concert reading of the new play-with-music (not a musical) YSIA at Fine Arts Building on Michigan Ave. October 17&18, 2025. Generous stipend offered. A few virtual rehearsals via Zoom with one live tech October 16. Must be both an actor and a musician who either learns by ear or can read a lead sheet (see role descriptions for instrument), scripts will be used for performances. Character Type/Restrictions:
James 65-75, lead guitar, white, British, caustic wit
Tommy 65-75, keyboard, any race, leader of band, skeptic
Esther 60-70, black, bassist, lesbian, outspoken
Marcus 65-75, drummer, any race, hard of hearing
The play is followed by a brief concert of the music the characters have discussed/worked on during the play. Minimal instruments required (e.g. an electric guitar, electric bass, snare & hi-hat or e-drums, no amps needed, keyboard and sound system provided). The emphasis is on acting, but you'll do some character singing during the concert.
