CIRCA Pintig, Chicago’s Filipino theatre organization, will be conducting an incubator workshop performance of KROSSROAD THE MUSICAL, an original musical about a Filipino immigrant family in pursuit of the American dream, created by Foline Roos.
This musical will be performed workshop reading/sing-through style, and the ensemble will rehearse and perform together and will learn original music and harmonies, culminating in two invited workshop performances with the goal of garnering feedback from theatre professionals, community partners and organizations, and other interested audiences in order to make revisions and pursue a full production.

Time Commitment:
Rehearsals - 6-8 evening rehearsals or afternoon weekend rehearsals scheduled between August 11th and September 9th pending cast availability
Tech - 2 evening tech runs; Wednesday September 10th, Thursday September 11th
Performances - 2 evening performances; Friday September 12th, Saturday September 13th
Character Type/Restrictions:
- AVA (female, any ethnicity, teens-20s, mezzo soprano, sings up to E5) A young immigrant with a beautiful voice. Soft-spoken. She is an undocumented immigrant, so life hasn't been as good as she wished. Prepare a 16-bar or a minute-long song in the R&B/soul genre.
- DEIRDRE (female, white, teens-20s, mezzo soprano to soprano, sings up to F5) Also plays ensemble characters. Prepare a 16-bar or a minute-long song in the pop/R&B/musical theatre genre
- NIAM (male, Filipino/Asian, 30s-40s, tenor to baritone) Also performs ensemble characters. Both a great singer and dancer, an all-around performer. Carries the middle section of the band, Isigao. Prepare a 16-bar or a minute-long song in the R&B genre.
- BAS (male, Filipino/Asian, 30s-40s, tenor) Also performs ensemble characters. All about attitude. Carries the band with his showmanship. Has a sexy falsetto. Tenor. Prepare a 16-bar or a minute-long song in the R&B genre.
- EILEEN ESPIRITU. Filipino/Asian/Latino female age 30s to 40s. Fun, outgoing, multifaceted, and unafraid to speak up. A registered nurse who came to the U.S. in 1984 through an employer sponsorship. Heads a homeless shelter. Always seeking for new opportunities to help her community. Mezzo soprano. Prepare a 16-bar or a minute-long song in the musical theatre/pop/R&B genre.
- MARINA CRUZ (OLDER). Filipino/Asian/Latino female, age 30s to 40s. Ambitious, practical, compassionate, disciplined. Her practical nature gets in the way of her desire to take risks. As her older self in Act 2, she struggles to connect with her now young adult daughter Jenny who wants to pursue music instead of a more stable life in America. Mezzo soprano. Prepare a 16-bar or a minute-long song in the musical theatre/pop/R&B genre. Plays other ensemble roles in Act 1.
