Bump in the Night Theatre is excited to hold auditions for our next production, Squeamish by Aaron Mark.

Synopsis: Sharon, an Upper West Side shrink, longtime recovering alcoholic, and world-class hemophobe, finds herself in the South Plains of Texas—off her psychotropic drugs—after her nephew’s sudden death. SQUEAMISH is a grotesque tale of phobia and compulsion, a minimalist work of psychological horror about craving what terrifies us most.

Squeamish is a one-person show, running between 75-90 minutes and offers an opportunity for a rewarding experience for a performer.

There is a $400 stipend. $250 for understudy. (There will be at least one scheduled understudy performance.)

Auditions will be held on April 19th from 10:30am-12:00noon at Green Shirt Studios (4001 N Ravenswood Ave, Unit 303-B Chicago, IL 60613)

Please prepare either a long monologue (1:30-2 minutes) or one of the provided sides. Or whatever you have.

The option to submit an audition tape is available on our website.

Callbacks will be scheduled on a individual basis over the next couple of day after the audition.

The performer also plays: Becky, fifties, Sharon’s sister in Texas; Burt, fifties, Becky’s husband; Cara, twenty-one, Eddie’s girlfriend; Joanie, thirties, a friend of Cara’s; Dante, forties, another friend of Cara’s; Betty, seventies, a dominatrix.

Please prepare either a long monologue (1:30-2 minutes) or one of the provided sides. Or whatever you have. (If using one of our sides, memorization is not expected but you should take time to familiarize yourself with the text.)

Time Commitment:

The show runs from June 5th to June 22nd at the Fine Arts Building in the Little Studio. There will be 10 performances.

Rehearsals will be scheduled based on artist availability but will take place between April 28th and June 5th. Rehearsals will be held at a venue on the north side TBD.
