All auditions will take place at 4200 W. Diversey Avenue. More information below on parking and arriving to the audition space.

Open to all ethnicities, genders and ability (18+). Seeking Chicago local hires only, We encourage Trans and Gender Non-Conforming performers to submit for any roles they are interested in; genders listed are those of the character, not the performer.

Seeking strong actor/singers. (See Character Breakdown.) All people submitting for FUN HOME will also be in consideration for our upcoming New Faces Sing Broadway NOW concert, scheduled for Fall 2024.

Arriving at Porchlight: 
All auditions will take place at 4200 W. Diversey Avenue. There is free parking on the street and in the adjacent lot. Please do not park in front of the loading dock. The #76 Diversey bus stops directly in front of the building (Tripp Ave) in both east and west bound directions. Enter through the black door on the S/E corner of the building off the parking lot near the loading dock.

Material to Prepare:

Please prepare 1 16-bar cut that best showcases your voice. Please bring your book in case the team would like to hear more.  An accompanist will be provided. Please bring a physical headshot/resume. No video submissions will be accepted.

Time Commitment:

Week of December 16th: First non-union coaching
Week of December 23rd, 2024: First rehearsal
Thursday, January 16th, 2025: 1st performance
Sunday, January 19th, 2025: Press Opening
Sunday, March 2nd, 2025: Anticipated Closing

Character Type/Restrictions:

Adult/Young Adult roles will have an understudy. Small Alison/Christian/John will be double cast. 

Alison: Female, a 43 year old cartoonist, Lesbian and daughter of Bruce and Helen; mezzo

Medium Alison: Female, Alison at 19, Oberlin College freshman, comes out while in college; mezzo

Bruce Bechdel: Male, Alison's father, High School teacher, owns the Bechdel Funeral Home, closeted gay; baritone.

Helen Bechdel: Female, Alison's mother, English teacher and married to Bruce ; mezzo

Joan: Female, a college student at Oberlin College, Allison's first lesbian encounter; mezzo

Roy/Mark/Pete/Jeremy/Bobby: Male, various ages; plays Roy, a young man Bruce hires to do yard work; Mark, a high school junior; Pete, a mourner; Jeremy/Bobby, other supporting male characters; tenor

Small Allison: Female, Alison at 10 years old. Strong vocals and acting ability required.

Christian: Male, Allison's brother. Minimal vocals, strong acting ability required.

John: Male, Allison's brother. Minimal vocals, strong acting ability required.
