Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre is proud to announce the launch of the Gloria Bond Clunie Playwright’s Festival. This festival honors the incredible career and legacy of Gloria Bond Clunie, one of the founding members of Fleetwood-Jourdain. She is also a founding member of the Playwriting Ensemble at Victory Gardens Theater where she premiered her plays North Star, Shoes, and Living Green. Her work as a theater and educator has been recognized by the NAACP, the Joseph Jefferson Awards, Chicago Black Theatre Alliance Awards, and Evanston Mayor’s Award for the Arts, among many others.

FJT is seeking actors to submit virtual auditions for consideration. BIPOC actors are highly encouraged to submit. Please see the character descriptions within the submission form – https://forms.gle/MiMERd7iT2Q3XL5G9

This festival will take place over two weekends (May 24-26th and May 31-June 2nd) at FJT’s home, the Noyes Cultural Arts Center in Evanston. The first weekend will be for the playwrights to spend time developing their play with actors and directors. The second weekend will offer rehearsal time, culminating in a public staged reading. There will be no props or costumes, and actors will be using scripts.

Schedule (exact schedule will be determined by the director, and it’s very likely that actors won’t be called for the full rehearsal time):

May 10th – Virtual submissions close
May 25th 1PM-9PM – Read through and workshop time
May 26th 9AM-5PM – Workshop time
May 31st 6PM-9PM – Rehearsal
June 1st – Rehearsal time is available starting at 9AM
Boring Black Play will perform at 4PM
Inheritance -or- Brothers From The Deep will perform at 7:30PM
June 2nd – Rehearsal time is available starting at 9AM
3 Sisters Forced To Face The Sky will perform at 3PM

Actors are not required to attend the other performances, but are more than welcome to. Actors are expected to stay for the post-performance discussion, but exceptions can be made if necessary.

Each actor will be paid a $50 stipend.
Directors may contact actors about virtual callbacks to be scheduled based on availability.

Actors should fill out this form (https://forms.gle/MiMERd7iT2Q3XL5G9) which includes character descriptions of each of the three plays. Submissions will close on May 10th at 9PM.
